The “Winterreise” is the most famous song cycle of German Romanticism. The 24 songs that Schubert has composed to the poems of Wilhelm Müller, describing a man who loses a love and therefore goes on a journey to find death.
In this production transfer the directors Yoshi Oida and Siegmar Schröder the lyric I Mullerian texts in five different actors, starting with the end of the song cycle, with the poet’s death. His jilted lover gets the book with his poems and embarks on a journey through the facets of his emotional worlds. On the way, they not only accompany the wistful poems – all pictures, nature experiences and people from whom he told in his lyrics to life.
Simple images, acting precision and partly recitative, some classic songs interpreted create a sensual look on human extreme states.
